Big City Stress

Man, I'm pretty fortunate to live in Las Cruces. We have everything I need here, and I don't have to worry about traffic. Alafair and I just spent a week in Denver, and I was amazed at how much traffic was there. All day, every day, there was traffic.

I love the charm of being in a downtown residential area, such as where Alafair and I stayed at our Air B and B, but trying to get out of the city was a nightmare. I felt trapped. I was exhausted before I even arrived at the places where Alafair and I were planning to do our adventuring for the day.

The drivers in Denver were pretty respectful, but it was still very intense always being on guard against getting into a wreck. I think about the people who have to spend at least an hour in traffic every morning just to get their kids to school, and I'm grateful that I can zoom my kids to their school in ten minutes, and then it's just another five minutes to my work.

I used to think that I wanted to live in a big city. However, driving between Denver and Colorado Springs recently, and spending two weeks in San Antonio last year, have reminded me how much stress I'm saved from enduring by living in a smaller city.
