Digestive Tract
I was thinking about weight loss and the things that I have done which helped me to shed toxic fat off my body. It's a bit overwhelming to just say to myself, "I'm going to lose weight." Targeted focus has been helping me over the last three years.
My focus is on my digestive tract. How can I understand it and how can I help it? When I feel that I am working with a part of my body, then I find that weight loss is just a natural by-product.
During my second round of yoga teacher training, I was introduced to the Coregeous Ball. I was instructed to either use it while sitting or standing or to lay, belly down, on top of it. The exercise started at the bottom right of my abdomen, and I rolled it up the ascending colon, then toward the left and along the transverse colon, down the descending colon, then finally rolling it right to my original starting point.
The more that I did these exercises, the more I became aware of how far along my meals had moved through my digestive tract. It helped me to space out when I ate, because I wanted to give my system an opportunity to eliminate waste. Additionally, being aware of the amount of food in my abdomen helped alleviate pressure on my pelvic floor and weak core muscles.
I was no longer solely focused on overall weight loss, but I was learning my body. I was working with myself to feel better. I've had this awareness, and I've been growing my practice, for the past four years. It's a very gentle way to support myself.
