Leveling Up
I've written about working to obtain my Level 2 licensure in teaching. I think that I've been doing this for about 3/4 of a year, now. Initially I thought, "Ugh...more classes," because college really didn't prepare me for being a teacher, and I didn't have much faith that this process would be helpful either.
I was wrong, though. This licensure process has been helpful. It's showing me the most important parts of education for our state, and I am able to apply it to my instruction. The courses only focus on a few concepts for an entire quarter, and we get substantial practice applying it to our daily teaching. It's a tedious process, but I can actually see how it's helpful.
The nice thing is that our state has truly had to shake things up for the special education system because they lost a lawsuit for underserving students with special education needs, Native American students, and students in low socio-economic brackets. I see positive changes being implemented into our schools, and I'm glad that I chose to level up with my licensure or I might still feel like I don't understand what is happening.
