Not for Beginners
Beginners' yoga classes are not for beginners. I said what I said. Seriously, though, I've never been to a beginners' yoga class that paid attention to a beginner's unique needs the whole class through.
After years of studying yoga and practicing in different group classes, I've learned that it's truly unrealistic for a beginner to go into a new yoga group class and expect to get help for their individual body and nervous system. I think that would make the group class too slow for most people to feel comfortable.
I tell people that if they either need to have private sessions with me or I suggest physical therapy first. Secondly, I suggest group Restorative yoga classes or group Yoga Nidra classes. These are the settings where the teachers have enough time to help people access poses where they are the most least likely to improve their bodies.
