Ugh...Acne
I've tried so many different things for acne. I've tried prescriptions, egg yolks, clay masks. None of them have worked for the type of acne that I have.
It's irritating to still have acne as an adult. It exacerbates my anxiety, too, because I pick at it. That's just painful and doesn't help anything; yet I can't seem to stop. Thank God for those little hydrocolloid patches that are out now.
The one thing that I have tried that has calmed down the inflammation on my face is honey. I use Manuka honey on my face, but I also have a honey that my friends from Germany gave to me over the summer. I ended up trying honey as a last resort this past summer when my daughter got a sun burn on her face.
I didn't have any aloe to help soothe it. From somewhere in my memory came the thought of reading about honey for soothing burns. My friends had just gifted me with German honey, so I quickly opened it, smoothed it across Alafair's face, and twenty minutes later the angry red burn had calmed to a ticked-off pink color.
When I returned home, my acne flared up, and I decided to try Manuka honey on my face. It was very pleasant. I smoothed a thin layer over my face (I learned that it's a drippy mess if I put it on too thick) and then rinsed it off after 20 minutes. The red swelling calmed down nicely.
The honey calms the irritation down a lot. Truly, though, after trying so many different methods to treat the acne, I've started to think it's rosacea. I have a doctor's appointment soon to get some help with it. However, if you have regular, run-of-the-mill acne, know that I've used honey on myself, and my son, too, and had very calming results. Good luck!
